A Message from the Universe – Nu Kua

A Message from the Universe – Nu Kua comes to tell us that our relationship with order is out of whack. Either you’re a disorganized mess or you’re so rigid with yourself and your environment that it’s just not helpful beyond the aesthetic.

I’m oddly guilty of both at different times and in different environments. I can be surrounded by a top level depression mess and hyper-focus on making my desk look perfect. I’ve learned a few helpful things over the years and for the most part they’re universally helpful so I’ve listed them for you below.

1. Do you really need that?

One of the biggest things that helps me is asking this question. I try to make sure anything I bring home is practical so it isn’t just adding to a cluttered closet or shelf. I can’t tell you what a difference it made just when I stopped accepting entire bags of hand-me-downs. Yes I can donate what I don’t want but how long is it going to take up space before I actually get it to the bin? Some people do the “one in, one out” thing and I think that’s really helpful as well.

2. Everything really does need a home

And the things you use frequently should be kept in something easily accessible close to where you use it. Never underestimate the power of a well-placed basket!

3. The “while I’m up” pickup

This literally changed my life. In my most difficult of times it’s been a challenge just to get out of bed, let alone do all the dishes that seem to breed like rabbits. I started making a habit of telling myself to do 1 dish or hang up one shirt, etc., whenever I got up to go to the bathroom or grab something to eat.

You will inevitably do at least a bit more than what you told yourself you would do and it sends nice signals to your brain that you’ve accomplished something.

4. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!

Nobody wants to clean your house, this is true, but you have at least one person in your life who would love to help you just because you need it and they care about you.

5. Work on avoiding the perfection trap.

Tell your brain you’ll make it perfect after you get some kind of base level stuff done. Prioritize your tasks. Yes it would be nice if you had a perfectly arranged bookshelf but wouldn’t it be nicer to have the whole room somewhat tidy? Yes you want your favorite cleaner but you ran out and you know you can still improve that area without it.

Let me know in the comments if you have other tips you’d like to share and let me know if this was helpful to you!
