Daily Card for 3/23/20 – A Change in the Wind

Published by Trish Nonya on

We have been in the midst of an enormous global shift for some time now. While our institutions have fought tooth and nail to maintain their ever increasing bottom line, we have also fought relentlessly. First to attempt to prosper under these systems then, more recently, to change these systems or attempt to live beyond them.

They will continue to attempt to prop up this unsustainable way of living so we really need to enhance the sustainability in our own lives.

Right now our essential workers are eyeball deep in this shit that has most recently hit the fan, and we increase their stress tenfold with our panic and reliance on commodity. We need to keep our panic in check and encourage others to do the same.

We also need to learn and teach others to care for ourselves and our communities in a more simple way. Who are the people in your neighborhood? Do you know who your local farmers are? How about old mothers who’ve been the healers since the beginning of humanity? What are some edible plants that grow in your area? Did you know you can grow potatoes in a 5 gallon bucket?

When the current pandemic fades, we will have the choice to keep putting all our energy into getting back to “normal” or we could take what we’ve learned during this time to create a new, more simplified normal.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there is real opportunity in this situation. Keep learning my friends, and teach others.
