The Wheel reminds us that many of the highs and lows of life are beyond our control. As we approach a new year we tend to reflect on the previous year and make well intentioned resolutions we are almost sure to break. I challenge you to do things a little differently this year.

Your intentions are important but it’s equally as important to understand what you’re working with, what you’re working towards, and why. Traditionally we try to quit a destructive habit or create a healthy new routine but think that somehow our willpower will magically be better this time.

Let me let you in on a little secret, willpower is bullshit. You have to understand your own weaknesses and external factors that contribute to your difficulty. Once identified, you can use that information to make changes to your environment and create strategies for what you can do when you want to cave. Anticipate your excuses so you can be a step ahead of yourself.

This card also signifies the beginning of a long cycle. Your current intentions and subsequent actions will shape the foundation for the next twentyish years of your life. This crazy year has made us truly feel the uncertainty about what the future holds, so now we’ve got to prioritize adaptability, personal growth, and taking care of each other. Let’s build a future where connection is more than a signal on a device.
