Start Your Own Business at Home For Free

1. Believe and commit to yourself!

First thing’s first; If you don’t believe you can do it then you won’t be able to do it. I’m going to help you out with that right now. There are over 7 Billion people on this earth and it’s ridiculous to think that there aren’t a whole shit-ton of people that would appreciate, even love, what you have to offer. You don’t need to go viral or have thousands of customers, just put yourself out there and be consistent.

2. Brainstorm and Dream Big!

Let yourself get carried away, even a little ridiculous. It is in this space that the impossible finds ways to become possible. You might decide to do something not so out of the ordinary like gig work as a virtual assistant or selling your creations online. You choose what you will do and be, and your business will change and grow with you. Be open and flexible. This is the time when you will probably come up with your name and logo.

3. Research

Read books like and , which happen to be my favorites so far, watch a whole bunch of tutorials on YouTube, or take classes. Not only will you be learning, it will also help to excite and inspire you. Take lots of notes and make lists for all the things.

4. Get Yourself a Website

Or decide what platforms you want to use. Utilizing social media for this purpose is good, especially at the beginning when you’re still figuring stuff out. Social media is pretty much a necessity that will help get you seen but I recommend having a site as your home base. It’s easier to track and manage your business across platforms.

I use for both my free and paid accounts, you can also check out other platforms like Wix and Google Sites which also have free tiers. Once you’re ready to upgrade, you’ll need to buy a domain name (the .com address) and get a web host which is kinda like renting space for your site. I use for both as it’s designed to work with WordPress and they usually have specials for WordPress users.

5. Create and share your work!

Whether you write blogs, sell hand-crafted items, or make videos for YouTube, start cranking out the content and share it as much as you can.

Ideally, you want to create as much content as possible right away and pick out a social media platform or two which will be your main focus when sharing and interacting with others. Things like Facebook Groups and Quora Spaces will help you to get in front of people who are looking for exactly what you’re selling, just try not to get spammy. Interact as a person 1st and business 2nd. Pinterest is also a must-have, I’ve recently begun getting a majority of my traffic from them.

6. Get you some apps that are both helpful and free:

1. Airtable is like an amped up database with more functionality. The big pull for me was the ability to use it on my devices and the web. They’ve got a template for a content calendar and pipeline that has become one of my most used tools so far.
2. Toggl Time Tracker – Another tool that works both on the web and on my phone. Easy to use, it tracks your time manually or automatically. It keeps track of your various projects and has reports to help you see where your time goes.
3. Canva is a graphic design platform that’s used to make social media posts among other things. It’s beginner friendly and has a ton of free templates and graphics. You can even sell your designs through the app. My current logo was made using this app.
4. Bluemail – All your email in one place, easy to batch delete emails, save emails as tasks, lots of options for settings and personalization.

7. Now you get to exercise your patience – don’t give up!

A lot of new businesses fail only because they gave up too soon. Depending on what you’re doing and how much time you are able to spend, it can take years to bring in a steady income. Remember, where your attention goes is where the energy flows!
