From Hopeless to Empowered – A Message for the Collective
My friends, I am intimately familiar with the depression mess. I’ve danced on the line between life and death more times than I can recall. I’ve gloried in my ability to kick ass in a work setting while being almost completely unable to apply these abilities to my home life. I have experienced awful things I cannot share and things that made me bubble with joy.
I do not claim to have my shit together, far from it in fact. What I do have is a “default setting” of general peace and well-being instead of my former default of anxiety and depression. There’s no big secret to switching that default setting, except knowing that the tools and tips that worked for one person do not work the same way for the next person.
Be open to and experiment with what others have found helpful. Keep what works and tweak or discard the rest. The answer to most of your problems and wishes lies with understanding yourself and your needs. Oddly enough, you and your needs are subject to frequent change so what works for you now may not work for you down the road.
Learn to sit with and pay attention to the feelings coming from both your mind and your body. You might not know what they mean or what to do with them right away but you will learn your patterns and cycles just by observing how every-day situations feel. By learning your patterns, you can better anticipate them and understand how to improve how you work with them. Do not allow your self-doubt or people in your environment to dictate what is possible for you.
Self-development and spiritual processes are not something that can truly ever be finished, let alone rushed. There will always be room for growth so don’t think of it like you have to a finish-line to cross. Just be and allow. Life really can be more beautiful than painful, but it begins with you. It’s time to acknowledge your power to create life on your own terms.
