The Sound of Magic, 8 Videos for Meditation, Focus, & Calm

Nonya’s Nonsense #11

Hello beautiful souls!!

Before we get into it, I wanted to let you know that I will be posting this weekly newsletter on Tuesdays (EST) starting next week. I had to rework my schedule a little bit.

Ok, now for today’s topic!

Music has always had a huge effect on me. It’s helped to lift my spirits when I’m feeling low, work through energies such as anger in a healthy way, and bring peace to my heart when anxiety is high.

Music is life!

Well, over the past few years, I’ve come to understand just how much sound itself can affect us; even more so as I did a little research today. Sound greatly affects us physically, psychologically, cognitively, and behaviorally. It can change our heart rate, and our emotions, and even affect our productivity.

Below are some of my favorite YouTube videos that use sound to help with meditation or achieving a desired feeling. If you want to learn more about how sound affects us, you can check out this video or read this article by Julian Treasure.

***Please note that what makes me feel one way may not make you feel the same. Experiment with different sounds to find your favorites!

1. Chakra Meditation from Michael Sealey

This is one of my favorite people to look up when I’m looking for guided meditation at bedtime. His voice is super relaxing and he knows how to create the perfect soundscape!

2. A little Hobbit Ambiance

To bring a little non-distracting lightheartedness to tasks that require deep focus. I use this one a lot when I’m writing 🙂

3. Two videos that never fail to at least lessen my anxiety

4. This amazing mix of drums and binaural beats to help work with your 3rd eye

5. Gentle ocean waves

There’s nothing like the sound of the ocean to bring peace to a chaotic mind! It can be hard to capture the sound of the ocean without it taking on a sort of “tinny” quality. I think both of these videos do a great job of that!

6. The perfect morning quickie 😂😂😂

I wanted to make sure I got at least one quick meditation in and this one is the perfect way to start your day! Amping up the gratitude calls in more things to be grateful for!

What I’m Up To

I’m working on a few things that I’m not ready to talk about yet and I’m exhausted but happy! I’m almost done with the shawl I’m crocheting, though I may want to make it bigger. I used a bonus bundle of Lion Brand yarn and used this pattern that I found on Pinterest. I had a little trouble grasping the stitch so I also used this video to help me.

What I’ve Written this Past Week

All the links are free, of course 🙂

What I’m Reading

Still listening to these audiobooks ⬇️

I’ve been going back and forth with listening to The Wolves of Calla, the 5th book of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, and The Talisman, a book written by both King and Peter Straub.

I’m also still reading Daughter of Fire by Sofia Robleda. It’s such a good book but I’m an incredibly slow reader these days! It’s historical fiction set in the aftermath of the Spanish invasion of South America.

What I’m Watching

I’ve added IMDB links so you can check them out 🙂

Brothers (Prime)

This movie was hilarious! It stars Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage but even better, Brendon Fraser plays a bad guy who is out of his mind. It was really interesting to see him in that type of role!

Here’s the description:

“Two criminal twin brothers, one who is trying to reform, embark on a dangerous heist road trip. Facing legal troubles, gunfights, and family drama, they must reconcile their differences before their mission leads to self-destruction.”

Trap (HBO/Max)

A movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan and starring Josh Hartnett. Of course, I had to check it out and I’m glad I did! It was a great movie and Josh Hartnett surprised me with his character. Saleka Shyamalan also played a singer in this movie and I loved her sound!

Here’s the description:

“A father and his teen daughter attend a pop concert only to realize they’ve entered the center of a dark and sinister event.”

I still have Prime trials to give out, specifically a 6-month trial for students which ends on 10/31/24, details are under the “Free Stuff” heading 🙂
