What's New With Me & Recommendations for You!

Hello Beautiful Souls! Since I’ve begun adding Pick-a-Card readings to this newsletter for the full and new moons, I thought it was a good idea to use the other two weeks of each month to share what’s new with me and things like movie and book recommendations.

Remember, this newsletter is for YOU so I want to hear what you like and dislike about it and I’d love to hear your suggestions!

Table of Contents

Updates

  1. Free Facebook wall readings – paused
If you’re not familiar, I do free tarot-based mini-readings on my Half-Cracked Guru Facebook page, usually in the early afternoon on Saturdays (EST).

Next Saturday I will be in NYC cheering my son on for his 2nd professional MMA fight! For that reason, I will not be doing wall readings next weekend and will likely take the following weekend off as well.
  2. I’m on Threads!
I struggle with social media but Stephen King moved from X to Threads so I followed him there and it turns out that I actually enjoy the space! I’m still not exactly the best at social media but I have been engaging there much more than I expected. I share Guru stuff there but have also been sharing space with fierce women and letting my rebellious side have a little bit of daylight. Here’s my profile link for those of you who want to check it out.

What I’ve written this past week

What I’m creating

Crochet

I’m currently working on finding a couple of crochet patterns for hats that I like but have mostly been doing a lot of stash-busting granny squares while I catch up on TV shows and replenish my currently low energy.

If you’ve thought about learning how to crochet, granny squares are the perfect starting point! They are easy to learn and work up super quick! Here’s a tutorial from one of my favorite YouTubers:

What I’m reading

The Stand, Stephen King

I read this book years ago and am now listening to it via a free Amazon Music trial. Basically you get to choose one book to listen to per month but you don’t get to keep it. No big deal, it’s not like I would pay for their music service 🤣🤣🤣

“A patient escapes from a biological testing facility, unknowingly carrying a deadly weapon: a mutated strain of super-flu that will wipe out 99 percent of the world’s population within a few weeks. Those who remain are scared, bewildered, and in need of a leader. Two emerge—Mother Abagail, the benevolent 108-year-old woman who urges them to build a peaceful community in Boulder, Colorado; and Randall Flagg, the nefarious “Dark Man,” who delights in chaos and violence. As the dark man and the peaceful woman gather power, the survivors will have to choose between them—and ultimately decide the fate of all humanity.”

What I’m watching

Links and synopsis from IMBD

The Stand, Paramount+(2020)

Well, I was rereading the book so of course I had to rewatch the series! I will be watching the old one for the zillionth time as well. Yes, this is a show about a pandemic that started streaming in 2020 – they started filming it in September 2019!

Stars: Whoopi Goldberg, Alexander Skarsgård, James Marsden

Dystopian SciFi: “After the world is in ruins, due to a man-made plague, a battle of Biblical proportions ensues between the survivors.”

Life of Pi, Hulu

I watched this one for the first time a couple of years ago and was so excited to see it in my recommendations! Of course, I read the book as well. I love this movie so much and I’m sure you will too!

Stars: Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Adil Hussain

Fantasy & Adventure: “A young man who survives a disaster at sea is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor: a fearsome Bengal tiger.”

What I’m listening to

I know I’ve shared this one recently but I just can’t get enough of it right now!

  2. Glad to read what you are up to! I haven’t crocheted in years, and taking on a hat is a great project!
