Shadow Work & Finding Yourself ~ A Message From the Universe
A Tarot-based energy forecast for the week ahead or whenever you happen to see this 🙂
Today’s Message From the Universe is all about shadow work and finding yourself.
I know the term “shadow work” can sound a little scary for those who aren’t sure what it is, but it’s possibly the most liberating and fulfilling thing you can do for yourself!
What is the shadow self?
Our shadow selves are not some evil menace hiding in our hearts; they’re more like a neglected, rejected, and devalued inner child begging for attention.
It is where we keep all the awful things that others made us feel throughout our lives, even unintentionally. Like anything else in life, ignoring your shadow does not make these feelings go away. It creates pressure that builds, releasing a steady stream of self-sabotage, shame, and feelings of unworthiness.
“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
– Carl Jung
Why should we do shadow work?
When we “do the work” we find that what was hidden in these dark corners was the key to our healing, often revealing amazing gifts and interests that light us up in a way that nothing else can.
This is your path to self-love, healthy relationships, and a fulfilling life. There is really no such thing as “finding yourself,” we are always growing and changing so your needs and interests will also change. You are always you even when you’re hiding 🙂
Getting to know ourselves, dark corners and all, might seem a little daunting at first but it does get easier and may even become second nature the more we practice.
So, how do you actually do shadow work?
This will be simplified advice based on my own experience so I urge you to look into it more, this article may be quite helpful to at least get you started.
Observe your thoughts, actions, and reactions and question them. Why did you do what you did or feel the way you feel? What do you like and dislike about others? What do you like and dislike about yourself?
I should also mention that accepting your flaws and limitations is an important part of this process.
One of my own examples came into the light somewhat recently. I realized that I was trying to be quiet in a way that was a little excessive and it was strange because I thought that I had already learned to “take up space.”
I realized that my body remembers. I also realized that even though we may heal a particular part of ourselves, it is still likely to pop up from time to time, especially when we’re not feeling so great. Sometimes it comes back around for you to reprocess from your current point of view and sometimes that inner child just needs a little extra love and assurance 💙
