Today’s Message From the Universe is asking you to care for our Mother Earth.
We are the only living thing on this Earth that destroys its own habitat. I think many of us do what we can to minimize our footprint, but it seems an impossible feat to rid ourselves of all the things and habits that we know are not good for our environment.
I don’t need to tell you all the different things we’re doing to create and maintain our assault on our home, but I would like to give you a little hope!
I grew up in the 1980s and saw my fair share of the impossible made possible. Whales became nearly extinct in previous generations, but there was a “save the whales” movement and international initiatives that truly did save them! Their populations are now flourishing. We’ve seen many species of animals come back from near extinction through our conservation efforts.
We put a hole in the ozone layer, so we banned aerosols that were the cause of that hole, allowing it to regenerate. Medical waste was consistently washing up on our shores, so we created guidelines for better disposal. We started recycling programs and created Earth Day.
The truth is that we humans are like a swarm of locusts, wiping out resources wherever we settle.
It has almost always been this way. We overfish, deplete our soil, and leave our waste for future generations to deal with. However, when we move away from an area that we’ve laid waste to or begin conservation efforts, our beautiful mother replenishes herself.
Have you heard of the Great Green Wall in Africa? 8000 kilometers of diligently cultivated verdant life stretched across the Sahel region, which lies on the southern border of the Sahara Desert. This initiative aims to keep the desert from expanding further south, and I highly recommend looking into it; it’s amazing! Other countries are now working on their own green walls.
How about “no take” zones in our oceans? These are a type of marine protection area that aims to allow areas to recover from overfishing and other destructive activities. Only 3% of our oceans are protected in this way, but the results are amazing! Areas that were practically barren before protections not only bounced back but flourished so well that the abundance spilled heavily into unprotected areas.
We now have plant-based plastics that will break down in 3-6 months of exposure to heat or water. We are steadily seeking green energy alternatives, and we’re researching ways to deal with the plastic mess we’ve already created.
Our biggest obstacles are less about our individual habits and more about unethical industrial activities.
We probably won’t see all of our countries participate in these sorts of initiatives, but that’s ok! More and more of our leaders are participating in efforts to preserve and renew our planet.
We need to learn and educate others, show our support to (or become one of) those doing right, choose “sustainable” whenever possible, and keep showing our leaders and legislators that this is important to us.
We didn’t create this mess over the course of days, months, or even a few years, so it’s not going to be fixed or even managed in a short time either. Think of our efforts as the steady flow of water that cleaves its way through a rock that seems impenetrable.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: The old ways are dying. We are ushering in a new way of living in harmony with our Earth as well as each other 💙

I was just reading how bald eagles were down to 461 breeding pairs in the 1960s and because of our conservation and helping them, they are in the thousands and thousands now! Its never too late to do our part, love your love for animals!
