A Message from the Universe ~ To Love Life through Labor
Today’s Message from the Universe asks you to examine the way in which you work or take care of your responsibilities.
“To love life through labor is to be intimate with life’s inmost secret.
And what is it to work with love? It is to weave the cloth with threads drawn from your heart, even as if your beloved were to wear that cloth.
It is to build a house with affection, even as if your beloved were to dwell in that house. It is to sow seeds with tenderness and reap the harvest with joy, even as if your beloved were to eat the fruit.
It is to charge all things you fashion with a breath of your own spirit.”
Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet
I don’t think this could have come at a better time as the pandemic has caused us to reevaluate our working experience. We’re starting to value ourselves and have realized that a work/home balance is actually achievable.
You can’t put your heart into your work if you’re exhausted all the time.
It’s been common practice to load employees with as much work as you can get away with while paying them as little as possible. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve put a lot of heart into shitty jobs but it wears on you. Take pride in your work and creations, even as you are looking for something new.
Do not value yourself based on the lack of appreciation from people who see you as a warm body to fill a position. Make every thought and move a step towards that balance.
Let your boss know when they’re trying to stack more onto your already overflowing plate.
Ask for help, demand a raise, turn down that job (if you can, of course), start pumping a little more energy into creative endeavors and side hustles. You might not think you have the time or energy to do so, but that’s only because you haven’t made it a priority. You make time for the important things in your life and this is pretty important; scheduling it (time blocking) might help you.
You have the ability to create a life that’s actually fulfilling instead of just existing.
