Keep Swimming! A Message From the Universe

Spiritual and practical guidance for the week ahead, or whenever you happen to see this 🙂

Keep Swimming! A Message From the Universe, 3 Oracle of Mystical Moments cards and crystals on a starry blue background

Today’s Message From the Universe reminds you to keep swimming! Pace yourself and be determined AF to enjoy the journey, especially when things are at their hardest.

I got a good chuckle when I drew these cards. Aren’t they just perfect together? It doesn’t matter what the nature of this journey is for you – career, romance, recovery, etc. – this message is all about that long and winding road that often makes you doubt yourself and want to give up.

It’s pretty easy to tell someone to enjoy the journey, but as with most things, this is always easier said than done. You may be dealing with a lot of discomfort, loneliness, or lack. You may even be at a point where just getting out of bed every day is a struggle.

First of all, you don’t always have to get out of bed and face the day. Sometimes staying in bed for a day or two is precisely what you need. This, of course, is a largely personal decision that will be different for everyone, but I do feel as if extra rest is sorely needed if you can manage it.

There is a big element of needing to push through the pain and exhaustion, but because this is a marathon and not a sprint, make sure you try to balance that out as much as possible with downtime and real self-care. Burning yourself out will not only make things more difficult, it will also make you more likely to make mistakes that will create more work for you.

This is a good time to seek help, work on your boundaries, and do what you can to make it easy to stick to those boundaries. Below are a few examples that may be helpful.

Work & Responsibilities

If your work is requiring a lot from you at the moment, make sure to schedule regular downtime. I say “schedule” because that’s often the only way most of us will give ourselves that time. You might set a time to be done with work every day and/or schedule a day every week when worky things are not allowed.

It may also be helpful to make time to reprioritize and slim down your task list. Are there things you’re working on now that can be placed on the back burner? Maybe you can take a day or dedicate a time of day to knock out all the little bits that “nickel and dime” your available time and energy.

A good example of this is to designate certain times of the day to go through your emails, rather than being in and out of your inbox all day. If you have to keep checking for priority stuff, do that, but save the rest for the times you have blocked for the task.

As far as recruiting help goes…

If you’re working a traditional job, it’s more than ok to ask your boss or coworkers for help – it may be necessary. You may even have to put your foot down and tell someone you need help instead of asking for it. I know from experience how scary that can be, but you may be surprised at the outcome!

I have also found that pushing back gains you more respect – unless you’re dealing with low-level management with fragile egos. Discernment is necessary here.

If you can’t get help to do your actual work, recruiting a little help for your responsibilities outside of work could make a big difference in the overwhelm you are feeling.

This could even be something as simple as calling a friend to help you wind down after work or run errands with you. Adding a friend or loved one to the mix can take the stress and trudgery right out of a daunting task!

The Emotional & Physical Long Haul

Loneliness, grief, recovery, depression, health issues, financial hardship…this particular long haul can take many forms and may even include the worky stuff discussed above. Seeking help is necessary at this time, whether it’s the help of a professional, a friend with a sturdy shoulder, or even an online community going through the same thing you are.

Mindset is equally important here. I am not one for toxic positivity – pretending a problem doesn’t exist only creates fertile soil for that problem (and others!) to grow. However, a good mindset makes a big difference! The goal here is to accept what is, so you can make the best of it, instead of folding in on yourself.

Let’s use grief as an example here because I have more than my fair share of experience here, and it goes hand in hand with many of life’s experiences, not just the loss of a loved one.

It’s easy to let it bury you, to get stuck in a dark corner where the rest of the world is little more than a muffled whisper, while anxiety screams from every cell in your body at the same time. All those things that need doing when it takes everything you’ve got just to roll out of bed – they can grow just as well in that fertile soil.

Take one step at a time, my friend. Let yourself slack on the little things to make the important things a little less overwhelming. Allow yourself to feel what you’re feeling, but don’t live there.

Many things can be true at the same time, so you can be grieving while still finding ways to bring a little light to your day – maybe even a little joy! A great example of this is how we trade stories about a lost loved one at their funeral – what better way to honor them than by highlighting what you love about them?

The light they brought to your life doesn’t go away; not only is it still there, it grows when you share it! It’s not just the stories and memories I’m talking about, either. This loved one (or other challenging experience) has changed you in the most incredible ways!

Maybe you learned how to better love yourself and others or how to loosen up. Maybe you learned “practical” things that will be useful for your path or life in general, but, most of all, loss and hardship have a way of showing us just how beautiful life can be. It shows us what’s really important in life and where boundaries are needed for ourselves as well as others.

Sometimes it even leads us to our purpose.

Whatever challenge you are facing…

No matter what difficult path you are walking, the gist is the same – don’t give in to overwhelm! Everything is temporary in life, especially your emotions.

Loss and new things get easier with time, and joy can be found in the tiniest of things and the briefest of moments. You have the choice to allow your challenges to either defeat you or motivate you. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life, it’s that you can pack a whole lot of awesome into a very short time, but only if you choose to do so.

Keep swimming, beautiful souls, but pace yourself! 💙
